Haller Lake Music Series announces its 2017/2018 Season!

Haller Lake Music Series announces its 2017/2018 season:
All performances take place in the chapel at Haller Lake United Methodist Church, located at 13055 1st Avenue NE, Seattle, WA 98125, USA. No need to dress up! There’s plenty of off-street, free parking. Admission is by freewill donation at the door ($20 suggested; $5 for students and children). Audience members get a chance to speak with the musicians at a post-concert reception in Fellowship Hall across from the chapel, where there are free refreshments.
Some of past years’ favorite artists are returning: namely, pianists Johanna Mastenbrook & Lucy Wenger, cellist Dave Beck, clarinetist Robert Wingert, soprano Malya Muth, and violinist Brittany Boulding. Many new musicians will come entertain us as well!
 
Sunday October 8 at 7pm Seattle Music Teachers Association presents a Teacher Performance Showcase highlighting the wide range of musical genres and talents in the SMTA community of professional music educators. This program will feature members and guest artists performing chamber music and solo piano repertoire from the Baroque, Classical, Romantic and Contemporary literature.  All proceeds benefit SMTA’s Student Enrichment Programs. Performers include: pianist Jason Kuo; violinist Sandra Layman accompanied by pianist Lucy Wenger perform a segment called “Romanian Miniatures.” 
 
Saturday November 18, 2017 at 7:30pm Nola Allen’s Cascadia Trio (including Dave Beck on cello, Nola Allen on piano, Robert Wingert on clarinet ).  Program includes a Beethoven Trio for Piano, op 38, and a song cycle, La Nuit D’ete’ by Berlioz sung by Malya Muth. 
 
Sunday December 3, 2017 at 3pm the husband/wife team Bruce and Beverly Reese Dorcy perform a crowd-pleasing “From Beethoven to Broadway, music for Horn and Piano”, featuring selections from famous composers of the past; Beethoven, Mozart, Brahms, Chopin, Strauss, Mendelssohn, Glazounov, Saint-Saens, Cherubini, Rachmaninoff and 20th century American composers like Leroy Ostransky, Burt Bacharach, Elmer Bernstein, Leonard Bernstein, Richard Rogers and Henry Mancini. This is a light-hearted look at some of their most requested pieces from over 20 years of horn-piano concerts.
 
Saturday January 6, 2018 at 7pm Sharyn Peterson and Mayumi Tayake perform violin/piano duets: Romanian Folk Dances by Bartok, a Brahms violin sonata, Legend by Wieniawski, Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso by Saint-Saens, and Fratres by Part.
 
Friday February 23, 2018 at 7:30 pm Thomas Lee & Emily Hu perform piano/cello duets. 
 
Saturday March 10, 2018 at 7pm Malya Muth sings songs by Strauss and Rachmaninoff with Johanna Mastenbrook at the piano; Lucy Wenger plays solo piano pieces by Smetana; Regina Thomas sings songs by Liszt with Johanna Mastenbrook accompanying on piano.
 
Sunday April 22, 2018, at 7pm Brittany Boulding’s Ensemble performs a viola quintet program (by Mendelssohn and Mozart); a piano trio program (by Dvorak and Brahms) and a Beethoven violin and piano sonata program/
 
Saturday, May 19, 2018 at 7pm Tamara Friedman and Steve Daniels perform a program of piano/violin duets: a sonata by Grieg, a sonata by Beethoven, and the Schubert Fantasy, plus “Set Mir Gegrusst,” the Schubert song that shares the same melodic theme as the Fantasy’s variation movement.
 
Sunday, June 10, 2018 at 7:30pm the Girsky Quartet (featuring Natasha Bazhanov)
